Classes/Advising
Students can best prepare for Western Iowa Tech by taking a rigorous high school schedule.
If you plan to transfer from WITCC to a four-year institution, taking Algebra I and II and geometry are the recommended math classes. Quite a few, actually! Besides all of the private opportunities out there, WITCC does have a number of scholarships and grants. Every fall and spring, you may apply for the next term's scholarships with one application. You will be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for. The deadlines are generally in March for the fall term and in November for the spring term. Call financial aid at 712.274.6402 for the current exact deadline dates. There are also a few scholarships and grants that you do not apply for. If you meet the specified criteria, the award will automatically be applied. It may be based on your high school CGPA, your ACT score, and/or successful completion of a college course while in high school.
Yes! Generally, WITCC offers employment through work-study, which you qualify for through financial aid. Be sure to indicate on your FAFSA if you are interested in work-study.
Books may be purchased at any time before courses begin. Our bookstore usually has them in stock about two weeks before the term starts. Certain programs require that the student be equipped with a set of necessary tools. It is imperative that the students have these tools BEFORE the course begins. At least one "tool day" will be offered at WITCC (usually in the summer) where students may browse the vendors' offerings at deep discounts. A tool brochure is available to students indicating the lists of needed tools per program.
