If you answered "yes" to any of the above, but need to improve your reading, writing, math, or communications skills first, the best place to start is Western Iowa Tech!
For Sioux City classes, call the location where you'd like to attend.
For the Cherokee, Denison, Ida Grove, Le Mars, or Onawa classes, register during the time class is scheduled.
Classes are FREE, for adults 18 and older, self-paced so you work as quickly as you want, and easy to start.

General Educational Development (GED) Testing

Facts about the GED

  1. GED graduates earn an average of $7,000 per year more than those without a GED or high school diploma.
  2. The GED diploma is accepted by more than 95 percent of U.S. employers, colleges, and universities.
  3. Four out of ten high school graduates could not pass the GED tests.
  4. 97 percent of WITCC GED candidates pass!

To earn your GED, you must pass the five GED tests: Reading, Math, Writing, Social Studies, and Science.

  • Testing is available in Sioux City, Le Mars, Cherokee, and Denison.
  • Testing fee is $80.
  • Free pretests are administered (through the Adult Basic Education/GED Preparation classrooms) to assess your readiness for GED testing.

PLEASE NOTE: Persons seeking to meet the Iowa High School Equivalency Diploma requirements should be aware of companies that claim to offer the Test of General Education Development (GED) over the Internet or through correspondence courses. Ther are no online correspondence testing programs recognized by the General Education Devleopment Testing Service (GEDTS) of the American Council on Education (ACE). Persons can only take the Official GED Test Battery at an approved Iowa GED test center. The only way to receive an Iowa High School Equivalency Diploma is to successfully pass the Official GED Test Battery by Iowa state standards.
